Quercetin and Longevity

Quercetin and Longevity

Quercetin is a flavonoid found in fruits and vegetables, such as apples, blueberries, and onions. It's known for its enhanced anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Flavonoids were first discovered by Nobel laureate Albert Szent-Györgyi and later researched and proven to contain numerous health benefits In addition, studies have found that quercetin can help delay the aging of animals and, by extension, humans.

Overview

  • Quercetin increases NAD+ levels in the body.
  • Quercetin optimizes mitochondrial function.
  • Quercetin activates the Nrf2 signaling pathway.
  • Quercetin is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant.
  • Quercetin makes protein production more efficient.
  • Quercetin enhances skin hydration.
  • Quercetin slows down the aging of fibroblasts.
  • Quercetin helps fight cancer.
  • Quercetin has many other benefits.

Quercetin and Anti-Aging

Quercetin raises NAD+ levels in the body by increasing the enzyme activity of NMNATs and reduces NAD+ degradation by slowing the activity of CD38. NAD+ is a coenzyme essential to many cellular processes and is directly related to aging. NAD+ supplementation can therefore help delay aging. Quercetin optimizes mitochondrial function the decline of which is a key factor in human aging. Mitochondrial function can be improved with quercetin supplements to help make the body younger and more energetic. Quercetin activates Nrf2 signaling pathway. Nrf2 is a compound that promotes longevity by improving metabolism, and energy production in cells, reducing inflammation, and immune response. It also prevents cell damage, aging, and dysfunction, thereby slowing down the aging process.

Quercetin has broad anti-inflammatory properties as it reduces the activity of the inflammatory molecule, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB). This also helps to inhibit tumor growth, promote apoptosis, protect the cardiovascular system, and promote immune regulation. Quercetin also appears to reduce the inflammatory response of macrophages, which helps to maintain general health and slows aging.

Quercetin also has powerful antioxidant properties that neutralize active oxygen and nitrogen. Due to factors including age, living habits, and diseases, our bodies produce many free radicals that cause damage to cells and tissues and accelerate the aging of the human body. Quercetin can help eliminate excessive free radicals in the body, thereby delaying aging.

Quercetin makes protein production more efficient. Specifically, quercetin enhances proteolysis and maintains protein homeostasis; this ensures that proteins are properly produced and folded in cells. Quercetin promotes skin hydration which, coupled with its powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The skin appears hydrated, smooth, and firm. Studies have also shown that quercetin slows down the aging of fibroblasts, a process that leads to human aging, and offers protective effects against cancer (especially prostate cancer) as it interferes with the signaling pathways that regulate the two cornerstones of cancer development: apoptosis and cell migration.

Quercetin and Overall Health

In addition to directly fighting aging, quercetin offers many health benefits that promote longevity.
  • Quercetin helps improve cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
  • Quercetin helps boost athletic performance.
  • Quercetin helps fight allergies.
  • Quercetin helps boost immunity.
  • Quercetin helps prevent chronic diseases.
  • Quercetin may help with weight loss.
